JANIS ELOISE “NAN NAN” BROWN BAILEY


Janis Eloise “Nan Nan” Brown Bailey, 86, of Cyclone, WV, went home to see the Lord and her loving husband, Jesse, on Friday, May 13, 2022, at Raleigh General Hospital, in Beckley, WV. She was born on February 15, 1936 at Cyclone, WV, the daughter of the late Joda Waters Brown and Etha Pearl Lusk Brown. Janis was a proud member of Bright Prospect Missionary Baptist Church of Cyclone for 73 years, where she was a charter member of the Ladies Aide and sang in the Brown Trio with Maxine Martin and Glatice Brown. She thoroughly loved and enjoyed fellowship with her church family and looked forward to attending services every time the church doors were open. She was always willing to witness to her friends, family, and strangers about her relationship with her Lord, Jesus Christ. Janis’s hobbies included collecting dishes, talking to friends on the phone, camping, and sitting on the front porch visiting with neighbors. Janis was very proud of her extended family and looked forward to the Brown Family reunions, where she was looked upon as the family matriarch. She was the last survivor of her many siblings. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Jesse Lawrence Bailey whom she cared for during his illness for 11 years until his death. 

She was also preceded by her brothers, Dallas (Sylvia) Brown, Ulva (Alice, Jean) Brown, Basil (Glatice) Brown, Grady Brown, and infant James Roy Brown her sisters, India (Wannie) Bailey, Macy (Willie) Grimmett, and infant Gracie Brown. Survivors include her loving daughter Rosetta Etha Bailey of Cyclone her honorary daughter, Linda Paynter Cook of Cyclone, honorary grandchildren Bob Cook of Charleston, WV, Jessica (Justin) Cook Warren, and precious honorary great-granddaughter Penelope Warren of Albany, OH, her sisters-in-law, Velva Tolliver, Magdalene Watts, and Rachel Workman, all of Cyclone, brothers-in-law Stevie (Jackie) Bailey and Chucky Bailey, both of Cyclone, special niece Balinda Brown, who has stood by her and has, without fail, been willing to help her at all times, special nephew Stanley (Naomi) Bailey, special friends Danny, Reatha, and Pinky Gibson, Janet Rollins, Jackie and Lessie Lusk, and Paul and Karen Brown, who were always willing to help her whenever needed, as well as, many nieces, nephews, and other members who she cared about deeply. 

A celebration of Nan Nan’s life will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at Bright Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, Cyclone, WV with Rev. Jackie Lusk officiating. She will be laid to rest in Brown Cemetery, Cyclone, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 11 am until time of service on Tuesday at the church. Pallbearers will be Fairley Jewell, Conner Jewell, Danny Gibson, Rex Osborne, Gary Paynter, Chucky Bailey, and Freddie Lusk. 

The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home.
