Joyce Elaine Hylton Thompson, 88, of Mullens, WV, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021. Born June 24, 1933 in Covel, WV she was the daughter of the late James Henderson Hylton and Anna Elizabeth Hubbard Hylton. Joyce was of the Pentecostal faith and was the last matriarch of the immediate family. Joyce previously worked as an underground coal miner at US Steel #50 Mines. In December 2008, she retired from the Wyoming County Courthouse Annex with 25 years of service. Affectionately known as “Grandma” to many, she will always be remembered for her cooking, baking and cleaning skills until the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease hindered her abilities.
In addition to her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by a son Delbert Lee Thompson one brother Foster Hylton and seven sisters Jean Edwards, Jan Huffman, Ila Shupe, Pansy Sisk, Beulah Bolton, Sadie Hatcher, and Lillian Sutphin.
Joyce is survived by a very special granddaughter that she raised from birth, Jessica Thompson Daniels and husband Scott a daughter, Lisa Thompson Farley two sons, Dennis Thompson and wife Karen, and Billy Thompson and wife Shellina two grandsons, Bradley Farley and Austin Thompson two great-granddaughters, Khloe Daniels and Alyssa Daniels, and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral Service will be held at noon on Wednesday October 27th in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home in Lynco, WV with Bro. Alan Lambert officiating. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 11am until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family would like to thank Wyoming Nursing and Rehab for the care and kindness provided to Joyce for the last two years.
