SGT. LANNY BISHOP PERDUE

Our sweet son and brother, Sgt. Lanny Aaron Bishop Perdue, 61, of Beckley formerly of Mullens, has entered into his Heavenly home with our Father and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, October 4, 2021 in a Beckley hospital surrounded by his sisters. 

Born September 27, 1960 at Mullens, he was the son of Ruby Ellen (Bishop) Lilly and the late Olen Lee Thornton. 

Lanny was a 1978 graduate of Herndon High School graduating with Honors. He was a member of the West Virginia National Guard, Mullens Masonic Lodge #151 AF & AM, and the Capital City Lodge #74 Fraternal Order of Police. 

Lanny was a graduate of the West Virginia State Police Academy. He began his career in Law Enforcement with the Mullens City Police Department in 1979-1988 leaving and returning in 1991 to 2003 and was currently a Sergeant with the Division of Protective Services at the West Virginia State Capital where he served from 2003 until the time of his illness. 

In addition to his father, he is also preceded in death by his grandmother, Augusta Trogden Perdue; grandfather, James Aaron Bishop; infant brother, Jeffrey Lance Thornton; step father, Charles E. Lilly; and beloved aunt and uncle, Zelma and Arlon White. 

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving mother, Ruby Ellen (Bishop) Lilly; his loving siblings, Cynthia Thornton-Jennings and her husband, Dwaine, Michelle Thornton-Hale and her husband, Robert, Rhonda Thornton-Burrell and her husband, Kenny, and Steven Lee Thornton and his wife, Paula; eight nieces and nephews; twelve great nieces and great nephews; and his dear friends and confidant, Margaret Cash. 

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 8, 2021 at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens with Mike Endreson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton. 

Friends may call from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. 

Pallbearers will be Lt. Robert Herald, Sgt. Scott Duff, Cpl. John Workman, Officer Robert Long, Officer Ronald Eads, and Screener Huston Eads.
