SHERRIE “CHEVELLE” GIBSON

Sherrie “Chevelle” Gibson, 57, of Oceana, WV, formerly of Cyclone reunited with her parents in Heaven on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Logan Regional Medical Center, Logan, WV after a long courageous battle for her life. She was born on September 22, 1964 in Man, WV a daughter of the late William “Buddy” Gibson and Juanita Carolyn Brown Woolwine. 

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her step father Randy Lee Woolwine her maternal grandparents Arthur and Gladys Brown her paternal grandparents Will and Essie Gibson and several aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Those left to celebrate her life and the strong woman she was are her children Walter Harry “B.J.” Rakes, III (Kassandra) of Mullens, Adam Shane Rakes (Katherine) of Oceana, Buddy Lee Rakes (Shelby) of Oceana, and Kandise Nakol Walls (David) of Cyclone her companion of ten years Everett Ronnie Jessie of Pineville. Her grandchildren were her world and she enjoyed spoiling them and making sure they knew Mamaw loved them. Gracie, Brandon Lee, Mathew “Ty Ty”, Kensleigh, Lakin, Aiden, Adalynn, Sherrie Marie, Bradson, Xander, Troy, Addison, Lashealah, and Alexandria will forever miss their Mamaw. She is also survived by three sisters Anita Sizemore (Roy) of Oceana, Dorraine Maddy (Robbie) of Rougemont, NC, and Nora Woolwine Stevenson (Ali) of Charleston and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. 

In keeping with Chevelle’s wishes she will be cremated and no public service will be held. She wanted her children to have a cookout to celebrate her life at her home. This will be held at a later date. Her children would like to thank the staff of Logan Regional Medical Center for taking such great care of their mother. They would also like to thank everyone who has called, messaged, and sent up prayers for her during this time. “Our mom was a fighter, the strongest person we knew. She was our rock, our center, our person, our life. She suffers no more but our lives are forever changed.” – Her children The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV.
