Claude Shumate, 86, of Glen Fork, WV went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Claude was born on July 9, 1935 in Glen Fork, WV a son of the late Joseph Ball and Lula Evelyn Shrewsbury Shumate. Claude is a United States Army Veteran and attended the Saulsville Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister Wanda a brother Herman and a nephew Joseph Shumate.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years Marjorie Delta Powers Shumate two daughters Lee Ann Lehman and husband Douglas of Beckley, and Lorri Ellen Boothe and husband Charles of Kitts Hill, OH a sister Mildred Cook and husband Ray of Oceana three brothers Harless Shumate and wife Francis of Glen Fork, Clyde Shumate and wife Shelby of Huntington, and Firley Shumate and wife Shelia of Glen Fork a sister-in-law Sue Shumate of Wyoming eight grandchildren Kyle Lehman and wife Jessi, Lindsey Reed and husband Thomas, Adam Bailey and wife Jessie, Galen Lehman and wife Kaitlynn, Lydia Esekielu and husband Marvin, Dane Lehman, Ethan Lehman, and Janalee Lehman Schell and husband Nathan ten great grandchildren Noah and Scarlett Lehman, Kathryn, and Kamryn Reed, Rowan and Ruthie Bailey, Caden, Lillian, and Branson Lehman, and Aria Esekielu and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 12 pm on Thursday, September 16th in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Rev. Larry Halsey officiating. He will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 11:30 am until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
