DANIEL BYRON WINGO

Daniel Byron Wingo, 80, of Mullens, passed away at Smith Mountain Lake following a short illness. 

Born July 27, 1941 at Mullens, he was the son of the late Pete and Mildred (White) Wingo. 

Danny was a former Coal Miner retiring from U.S. Steel with 35 ½ years of service and was a member of UMWA. In his leisure, he enjoyed being outdoors, collector of all things, and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Marian (Walker) Wingo. 

Those left to cherish his memory include his two sons, Scott Wingo and his wife, Angie of Roanoke and Mark Wingo and his wife, Kelli of Smith Mountain Lake; three grandchildren, Kaleigh and Kohl Lambert of Smith Mountain Lake and Emily Wingo of Roanoke; and two sisters, Kay Mummert of Rocky Mount, VA and Evelyn Bishop of Princeton. 

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 16, 2021 at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens with Rev. Lewis Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. 

Friends may call from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, August 15, 2021 and one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home. 

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. 

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to his daughter-in-law, Kelli Wingo and to the Good Samaritan Hospice for the exceptional care shown to Danny.
