The Wyoming County Board of Education recognized the accomplishments of the 2021 West Virginia AA State Championship Wyoming East Lady Warriors at its meeting in Pineville.
In a ceremony lead by Superintendent Mrs. Deirdre Cline and Assistant Superintendent Ms. N. Robin Hall Wyoming County Board of Education lauded the Lady Warriors on their great season and accomplishment of winning the State Title. Mrs. Cline also noted that it was an exceptional accomplishment for Coach Angie Boninsegna to win her second state Championship at Wyoming East and said that the team had brought great honor and happiness to their school and county.
She commended them on the sense of togetherness their season had created in the communities which comprise Wyoming East .
Ms. Hall said she hoped that the ladies realized how this would feat would stay with them throughout their lives and that she hoped they received as much joy from basketball as she had in her life. Board President Mike Prichard congratulated the team, its coaches, staff, cheerleaders and parents on their achievement and spoke of the pride felt throughout the county. His comments were echoed by fellow board members Mr. Allan Stiltner, Mr. Morgan “Mike” Davis and Mr. Richie Walker, who was also noted for his service as the announcer at Wyoming East where his continued advocacy for made lay-ups and foul shots has been legendary. Mr. Walker concluded by saying that the ladies truly exemplified the name Warriors with their play and refusal to quit in the face of adversity and reminding the young ladies how loved they are in the county.
Coach Angie Boninsegna said that in addition to being great on the court, her players were even better young ladies off of the court and she was very proud of them. She thanked her assistant coaches Tim Leather, Ryan Davidson and Max Boyce for all of their hard work which made a great season possible. Coach also thanked Principal Mallory Green for the great support of the administration and thanked the Wyoming East Cheerleaders, coached by Jamie Blankenship, for their support. She also thanked John Paul Lusk, Lori Pettus-Leather, Jazz Blankenship, Brooke Russell and Sonny Boninsegna, Jr. for their work filming games, creating multi-media creations and keeping stats.
