Darrell also exceeded everyone’s expectations and defied the odds by surviving 22 years after having a bone marrow transplant. Darrell accepted Christ as his Savior in 2006, to his mother Vera’s absolute joy. He was a faithful member of the Clear Fork Valley Christian Advent Church serving as a Deacon, member of Church Board, lead Sunday morning worship service and was active with all church projects for many years.
Darrell also served five years on the Oceana Area Ministerial Association representing his church and the last three years as vice-president. Darrell was a loving husband, father and papaw. He loved his son and grandson with all his heart. He lived for the summers spent with his grandson Zac coming to visit and cherished his time with him dearly. He was the big brother of six younger siblings. He enjoyed taking drives to anywhere and everywhere, telling stories about the good old days, and was a big fan of WVU sports. He was well known from his time working in the mines and his work with the alumni. He rarely met a stranger and was a good friend to many.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Anna Mae Dancy; and a son David Dancy.
Those left to cherish their memories of him are his grandson Zac Dancy of Stafford, VA; his daughter-in-law Shelia Dancy of Frediricksburg, VA; two brothers, four sisters and host of nieces, nephews and many friends. In keeping with his wishes he will be cremated. Due to COVID a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Clear Fork Valley Advent Church.
