MONTCALM – The River View Raiders scored once early and added a six-pointer in the second and another in the fourth Saturday in a 22-0 victory over host Montcalm in the season-opener for both teams.

While the offense pushed in those three scores, the Raider defense was solid in keeping the Generals from crossing the goal line.
Sophomore running back Mikey Picklesimer recorded the initial score on a five yard run at the 9:36 mark of the opening frame, followed by a conversion pass from senior Austin Cooper to fellow twelfth grader Chase Porter.
Jacob Sweeney, also a senior, found the end zone on a two yard burst with just 2:17 remaining before intermission, again followed by a Cooper-to-Porter two point PAT toss for a 16-0 advantage for the Raiders at the break.
With 6:46 showing in the game, junior RV QB Conner Christian passed to Porter for a 12 yard TD for the final six.
River View will visit Independence Friday evening, while the Generals’ game with Buffalo has been scratched due to Putnam County’s coronavirus rating in last Saturday evening’s metrics update.
