Shelva Jean “Shelby” “Granny” Blankenship Lane, 80, of Mullens passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at her residence.
Born November 24, 1939 at Barkers Ridge, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Bessie Mae (Hatcher) Shrewsbury.
Granny was a former cook at the Pizza Mart and retired as a caregiver from Mullens Manor. She was a member of the Sand Gap Old Regular Baptist Church. Granny was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Raymond Blankenship; her second husband, James Lane; one infant son, Kenneth Ray Blankenship; sister, Dorothy Trail; and one brother, Carl Shrewsbury.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Karen Hicks and her husband, Randy of Mullens; two sons, Charles Dewayne Blankenship and his wife, Della of Mullens and Michael Blankenship of Mullens; five grandchildren, Christy Mills and her husband, David, Kenneth Blankenship, Michael Aaron Blankenship, Christopher Harris and his wife, Rebecca, and Alicia Capone; 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Lena Alltop and her husband, David of Ghent; two brothers, Glen Shrewsbury and his wife, Polly of Ghent and Pat Shrewsbury of Danville, VA; special friend, Amber Simmons; and two fur babies, Baby and Peanut.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 4, 2020 at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens with Elder Russell McCoy and Elder Freddie Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Milam Cemetery, Barkers Ridge.
Friends may call one hour prior to service Friday at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
