JOSEPH ELWOOD POWERS


Joseph Elwood Powers, 86. Of Soddy Daisy TN, formerly of Glen Fork, passed away peacefully with his family gathered by his bedside on Friday July 3, 2020.
Born July 11, 1933 in Glen Fork, he was the son of the late Howard and Viola Powers Sigmon.  Elwood proudly served his country in the Marines. He worked thirty-eight years in the coal mines. Elwood was a member of the Glen Fork Baptist Temple for sixty-one years where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir leader and church clerk. He attended the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church his six years in Soddy Daisy TN.
Elwood loved farming, fishing and being outdoors. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and recently his two great grandsons, who brought joy to his life. He loved the Lord and singing songs of praise.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter, Joni Elizabeth and two sisters, Geraldine Price and Naomi Halsey. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of sixty-three years, Glenna of Soddy Daisy TN, his daughter, Jeanne Snider and her husband Barry of Soddy Daisy TN; three grandchildren, Brittni Shawn Kilpatrick and her husband, Matt of Soddy Daisy TN, Eric Joseph Snider of San Antonio TX and Jenna Elizabeth Snider of Soddy Daisy TN; two great grandsons, Liam and Nolan Kilpatrick; two sisters, Marjorie Shumate and her husband Claude of Glen Fork and Patsy Hartenstein of Bradley.
We ask those attending to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Hospice of Southern WV or Hospice of Chattanooga TN.
