Edith was born on May 15, 1929 in Pike County, Kentucky to Airs and Essie Norman Ratliff. She married Raymond Sturgeon on February 14, 1948. During her married life, she lived in West Virginia, Florida, and Michigan before returning to Mullens, West Virginia in 1976. Edith was proceeded in death by her husband Raymond as well as brothers Eugene and Bobby Ratliff and son-in-law Donald Hickok.

She is survived by children Rod (Cheryl) Sturgeon of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Paula (Donald) Hickok of Cincinnati, Ohio; and grandchildren, Chris (Rhea) Hickok, Ryan Sturgeon, Danielle (Brad) Powell, and Erin (Rose) Hickok. Edith also has three great-grandchildren: Ella and Wells Hickok and Remi Powell.

In addition, she is survived by siblings Phyllis Cook of Itman, West Virginia, Edna Vaughn, and Anna Rhea Ray, of Phelps, Kentucky, as well as Herstel Ratliff from Pikeville Kentucky, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Edith was a loving mother and grandmother whose greatest joys were centered around family and her church “The Mullens Church of God”. She loved crafts, laughing, feeding people, and eating “Nutty Buddy Ice Cream”. Edith was an easy person to like. She leaves a big gap in our hearts, but we know she is in a better place now.

The family would like to thank care giver Ashley Cook and Mona Owens for being her “special friend” and care giver as well. Also, a thank you to Paula Hickok for always being there for her mother. We would also like to thank the nurses at Bowers Hospice Center for providing her comfort in the last days.

Funeral service will be for immediate family only due to current health guidelines.
