Wyoming County Day at the Legislature will be held on March 1 this year.
This is the fourth edition of the event, in which businesses and organizations fill up the upper rotunda at the Capitol and meet with legislators and other state officials.
"This year, we're looking into having our legislators come in and talk to us about what happened during the session," said Economic Development Authority Director Christy Laxton, a member of WCD's organizing committee.
"Some of the speakers (scheduled) in the past have not been able to show up," she pointed out. "Our legislators can tell us what's been approved, what hasn't and what may be approved. We'll give them some ideas about what we're interested in finding out."
Registration for WCD continues through Feb. 12 (see registration form on Page Two), and 20 of the 45 available tables have already been reserved, Laxton indicated.
"We're really trying to encourage people to register as soon as possible since the tables are first come, first serve," she stated.
Forms have already been sent to those who had tables in 2009.
Despite early morning snow and poor travel conditions, nearly 250 attended last year's WCD. "We had a great turnout," Laxton remarked. "A lot of people just come up and walk around and visit, just to represent the county."
"The goal is really just to showcase businesses and organizations throughout Wyoming County and show Charleston what we have to offer," Laxton said. " A lot of the southern counties are (ignored). We have a lot to offer."
As was the case last year, the day's activities will be followed by a reception at the Cultural Center in the evening.
WCD was originally set for Jan. 23, Laxton said, but the date was moved due to a scheduling conflict.
Donations toward the costs of WCD are welcome.
