Brenton woman charged with forgery

A Brenton woman who allegedly cashed over $5,000 in stolen checks has been charged with forgery.
Ina New, 49, was a care giver for Juanita Haught of Brenton, according to Sgt. Brad Ellison of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department.
Ellison said New is accused of stealing 25 checks between Feb. 1 and March 13.
“The total she has taken out from that is over $5,000,” Ellison stated.
The situation was discovered by Haught’s daughter, whose name is also on the checks, Ellison said, and reported by Haught’s son.
Once he began his investigation, Ellison found that the checks had been cashed at various businesses in the area.
New, who was arrested last Friday, faces 25 counts of forgery and 25 counts of uttering “because she cashed them knowing they were unauthorized,” Ellison stated.
Bond was set at $50,000, and New has posted bond.
