Another night, another dominating win.

Class AA No. 1 Westside continues to execute its game plan and its opponents, pummeling No. 6 Summers County, 77-42, in the Region 3, Section 1 final on Thursday night at Clear Fork.

WHS raced to a 15-2 lead in the opening minutes, and the Bobcats (16-8) were never close after that.

“We told the girls we have to get off to a good start,” said WHS coach Jamie Lusk. “It makes it hard for Summers to get their confidence up.

“It also makes it easier on me too,” he joked.

Danielle Brown hit an eighty-footer from the baseline and later pulled up for a three to cap a 15-0 run in the early going.

Hope Lester’s bucket inside put Westside up, 19-4. It was 20-8 after the first quarter.

The Lady Renegades started the second period with a 9-0 spurt: Brown hit a long two-pointer, an Lester converted a conventional three-point play.

Morgan Spolarich scored on a run out, and then had another lay up off an assist from Brown. It was 29-8.

Westside held a 43-21 lead at the half.

The Renegades (22-1) continued to add to the lead through the second half.

Five players scored in double figures, and junior forward Megan Endicott (12 points, 11 rebounds) was named the tournament MVP.

“Megan knows where she is supposed to be and what she’s supposed to do,” said Lusk. “She’s a very intelligent player.

“She knows Hope Lester is going to be double teamed, and she’s going to be open,” he added.

In the last two weeks, Westside has beaten Summers twice and AAA Logan, all by double digits. Logan knocked off AAA No. 3 Huntington this week in sectional action.

“It says a lot for this team that they’re beating teams like Logan and Summers County,” stated Lusk.

Lester led the WHS scoring with 17. Brown had 15, and Endicott scored 12. Spolarich and Faith Davis notched 10 apiece.

“It feels awesome (to have a chance to go to state),” said Spolarich, the team’s senior point guard.

“We have to bring the defense every game, and the offense will come,” she commented.

Named to the all-tourney team were Endicott, Lester, Spolarich and Brown, Summers County’s Avery Pivont, Tyra Wynes and Brandy Morrison, Chelsea Duncan and Hannah Ford of Wyoming East, Emily Fedukovich and Kelsey Hart of Independence and Stacy Williams of Liberty.

WHS will host Bluefield on Feb. 27 in a Region 3 final. Bluefield lost to PikeView, 69-50, in its sectional championship game.
