Westside continues to build on its recent success.

The AA No. 6 Renegades won for the sixth time in seven games, beating Oak HIll, 67-55, on Wednesday night at Clear Fork.

WHS led from start to finish and held a 21-point lead late in the third. The Red Devils cut it to eight in the final quarter but got no closer.

“I was pleased with how we played overall,” said Renegades coach Nick Cook.

“What I like is that we’re sharing the ball.”

Westside scored the game’s first two baskets and never trailed.

It was 9-7 when the Renegades finished the first quarter with a 12-2 spurt.

Corey Bowles nailed a three from the right side and made a lay up. Justin Cogar scored inside, making it 16-7.

The Renegades would eventually extend the margin to 24-9 on a three and a bucket inside from Levi Lambert.

It was 34-17 at the half.

WHS (12-6) continued to add to the lead. A 9-1run, spurred by a Bowles trey, made it 47-27 with 1:56 left in the third period.

Will Fox gave the Renegades their biggest lead, 55-34, on a drive through the lane. Oak Hill pressed to create some turnovers and go on a scoring run of its own.

Joey Re’s foul shots at the 4:15 mark shaved the deficit to 59-50. A Re lay up with 3:26 to go trimmed it to eight at 60-52.

“I don’t know what happened in the fourth quarter, it seemed like we took a nap,” Cook observed.

Lambert drove to the bucket for two and Bowles stole the ball and scored to stretch the lead back to 12.

The Red Devils did not threaten after that.

“We need to play 32 minutes, not 16 and not 25,” Cook stated.

Bowles had 21 points and four assists for the winners. Cogar scored 16 and had five boards.

Lambert scored 15, and Jason Scarlett had six rebounds.

Re paced Oak Hill with 21. Mark Logan had 12, and Josh Jones added 10.
