OCEANA — Martha Ellen Manning Altizer, 68, of Oceana, passed away Saturday evening, September 8, 2012, at Bowers Hospice House. Born November 12, 1943, at Belle, she was the daughter of the late French and Elda Mae Cozort Manning. Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Oceana First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Cook officiating. Evans Funeral Home of Oceana is serving the Altizer family.

Calfee Funeral and Cremation Service of Pineville is serving the Belcher family.


William ‘Bill’ Lloyd Compton


ALPOCA — William “Bill” Lloyd Compton, 61, of Alpoca, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2012 with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born in Mullens, on April 15, 1951, he was the youngest son to the late Rudolph and Geraldine DeHart Compton. Bill’s life was remembered on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 7p.m. at Tankersley Funeral Home in Mullens. The family of Bill Compton is being cared for by Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens.

NEW RICHMOND — Edward Boyd Cook, 79, of New Richmond, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 10, 2012, at Welch Community Hospital, Welch, following a long illness. He was born June 16, 1933, in Glen Rogers, a son of the late Arnold Alvin and Bessie Brinegar Cook. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 14, 2012, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, with Pastor Reba Lockard officiating. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco.
