Wyoming County Relay for Life will hold its annual fund raiser for the Amercan Cancer Society on June 9.
The event kicks off at 6 p.m. at Wyoming East High School.
"We are well ahead of last year as far as the number of participants," said Peni Adams, one of the organizers of RFL. "We have several new teams from the Oceana area, which is great, because that has been an underrepresented area."
A new feature this year is a cancer survivors dinner set for June 4 at Cook Memorial Baptist Church in Pineville at 6 p.m.
Any cancer survivor and one guest is welcome to attend, according to Adams.
"We had been having a tent set up with sandwiches, but we didn't feel that special enough," she stated.
"We're hoping to make this an annual things," she added. "It's a big deal to be a survivor."
Jody Cook, a survivor, will be the guest speaker. "He is very active in encouraging people when they're going through this," Adams said.
Anyone planning to attend is asked to RSVP by calling Adams at 304-732-9616 or LeighAnn Lumbo at 304-890-1937.
Planned for the night of the RFL are a road to recovery race, luminaria, a silent auction and a grab bag auction.
"There's still time to sign up a team," commented Adams.
Anyone seeking information can contact Adams or Lumbo at the numbers listed above.
