A better mental approach helped Dave Loggins win the Wyoming County Open golf championship at Clearfork Valley Golf Course.
"I didn't get ahead of myself and try to think too much," said Loggins, who carded a five-under par 65 on Sunday to finish at 131.
It was his first win in the open.
"I've been coming here quite a few years," Loggins stated. "Everything just seemed to go my way today."
"We had 119 golfers, and that's pretty good for a tournament these days," said Toney Bowles, director at Clearfork Valley. "Everybody always comes and has a good time.
"It's almost like two tournaments," he pointed out. "We have a championship draw with a lot of the area's top players, and we have a lot of flights where the others can have fun."
Both of Bowles' sons, Corey and Colin, were in the field. Corey won the third flight with a 146, and 11-year-old Colin shot a 140 to finish fourth in the first flight.
"Watching them play almost makes me feel like I'm playing again," their dad stated.
Bowles thanked the hole sponsors, the ladies who cooked dinner and the Clearfork Valley Board of Directors.
