2 die in eastern Ky. Christmas eve crashes

Two eastern Kentucky men lost their lives in car accidents Christmas eve.

Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 9 reported around 6:24 p.m. Dec. 24, Bryan Tackett, 30, of Hi Hat, was traveling west on Ky. Route 122 at Buckingham in Floyd County when he lost control of his vehicle and ran off the roadway, striking a trailer used for storage.

The release said Tackett was pronounced dead on the scene by the Floyd County Coroners Office.

The accident is still under investigation by KSP’s Tpr. Justin Cornette.

In Letcher County, at 4:28 a.m., Dec. 24, KSP Post 23 reported Post 13 in Hazard received a call of a one-vehicle accident on Ky. Route 1862 in the Mayking community.

EMS officials transported Jimmy Mullins 49, of Thornton, Ky., who was not wearing a seatbelt, to the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital where he died due to injuries from the accident.

The accident is still under investigation by Tpr. D. Combs.
