Westside won its first ever softball sectional championship on Tuesday evening, beating Wyoming East, 3-1, to clinch the AA Region 3, Section 2 title.
WHS (20-6) had just three hits but made the most of its scoring opportunities. The Renegades scored twice in the second and once in the fourth.
East had nine hits but struggled to drive runners home. The Lady Warriors left the bases loaded in the sixth and left two stranded in the seventh.
Cassie Blankenship was the winning pitcher. Emily Day pitched four inning for WEHS (12-8) and took the loss. Larissa Davis relieved her in the fifth.
“I am proud of all my girls,” said Westside coach Sarah Patrick. “I told them they had to have the same mind set they did in the first game yesterday (a 4-1 win).”
The Renegades visit Independence in the regional semis on May 9.
