Westside continues to look like the team to beat in Class AA.

The Lady Renegades, defending state champions, overwhelmed Wyoming East, 94-31, on Thursday night at New Richmond to improve to 10-0 overall and win their 38th straight.

Westside was crisp and efficient.

“We moved the ball well and, more important that that, we ran the floor well,” said WEHS coach Jamie Lusk.

They were also deadly from the perimeter, knocking down 11 threes on the night.

“They can all shoot,” East coach Angie Boninsegna said of the Renegades. “They’re a hard team to defend.”

Westside scored the first nine points, using its pressure defense to force turnovers.

Lester hit a trey and Faith Davis added two more as the Renegades zipped to a 27-6 margin.

It was 31-9 in the second quarter when East put together a 7-0 run which included a 12-footer from Hannah Ford.

The Renegaces closed the door after that, outscoring the Warriors 45-2 over the last three minutes of the first half and the first six minutes of the third quarter.

“They took another leap,” Boninsegna commented.

“We have a lot of girls stepping up,” Lusk remarked. “They’re very unselfish.”

With games still coming with Summers County (twice), at Logan, at home with Nicholas County and AAA University at the Big Atlantic Classic, Lusk says it is important for his team to stay sharp.

“We’re excited about playing these games,” he noted.

East dropped to 6-6 with the loss.

“This is such a young team, I try to stay positive with them,” Boninsegna said. “I thought we did a better job against the press, but sometimes after we beat the press we missed the lay up.”

Lester had 22 points, followed by Davis with 18 and Danielle Brown with 17. Morgan Spolarich added 12.

Chelsea Duncan scored 10 for East, and Brianne Pertee notched nine.
