Westside hosts Wyoming East this Friday in the Battle for the Coal Shovel.

This is the 13th meeting of the teams, and WHS holds a 9-3 lead in the series. The Renegades had won five straight before East won last year’s game. A.J. Cook ran for 110 yards.

Westside opened the season with a 40-28 win at Liberty. Justin Cogar ran for 200 yards and passed for 115 to pace the Renegades.

East lost at home to No. 8 Mingo Central, 37-28 , and gave up over 400 rushing yards to the Miners. Nik Walker and Casey Saunders returned kickoffs for scores and quarterback Aaron Griffith had 75-yard run for a TD.

The Warriors dropped from No. 9 to No. 10 in the latest Charleston Daily Mail poll. Westside picked up several votes this week.
