Justin Cogar rushed for 200 yards and A.J. Cook ran for 110 as Westside whipped Liberty, 40-28, in the season opening game at Glen Daniel.
The Renegades grabbed the momentum early when A.J. Cook went 60 yards for a touchdown just 41 seconds into the game. Frank Bradford kicked the extra point to make it 7-0.
Cogar scored the first of his five TDs on the night on a four-yard run just before the quarter ended.
Liberty got on the board in the second stanza on Hunter Wright’s 64-yard scoring toss to TreShaun McDowell with 11:48 showing on the second quarter clock.
Cogar went 16 yards for six, and the Renegades took a 21-8 lead into the dressing room.
It stayed that way until late in the third, when the Westside quarterback broke loose for a 57-yard scoring sprint.
Liberty’s Christian Whittaker cut the margin to 27-14 on eight-yard run to the end zone.
Cogar sandwiched a pair of TD runs-one for fur yards and another for 65-around a Liberty score to push the lead to 40-20.
Whittaker ran for his second score of the night with less than two minutes to play.
Cogar finished with 200 yards on 20 carries and 7-12 passing for 115 yards.
Cook had 110 yards on 13 attempts.
Larry Cook had four receptions for 43 yards, and Bryce Robinson caught a pair of passes for 63 yards.
Wright was 7-18for 108 yards for the Raiders.
Whittaker ran for 204 yards on 31 carries. McDowell had three receptions for 71 yards.
Westside (1-0) plays its first home game this Friday against Wyoming East in the annual Battle for the Coal Shovel.
