Oceana’s Colin Bowles bowed out of the U.S. Junior Amateur in a tight match on Wednesday at The Woodlands, Tex.
Andy Zhang of China edged Bowles 2-up in match play.
It was close throughout and the two-hole margin existed only once, after Zhang won the 18th.
The two players were all square most of the way.
Bowles was 1-up after 14, but Zhang won three of the last four holes to get the win and move on to the round of 32.
Bowles shot a two-over par 74 on Monday and followed that with a one-over 73 on Tuesday.
That gave him a two-day score of three-over 147.
The top 64 players after two days qualified for match play.
Bowles is scheduled to play in a tournament in Tennessee next. Zhang is playing Tony Gil of Canada today in the round of 32.
