Mullens native Rob Fulford has been named an assistant basketball coach at the University of Missouri.
Fulford built Huntington Prep into a national power, reaching the semifinals of the Dick’s Sporting Goods national tourney earlier this year.
His teams were 138-17 in a five-year span and attracted top level talent. Andrew Wiggins, who played at Kansas this past season and was one of the national’s top freshmen, was among those who took the court for Huntington Prep.
Missouri has a new head coach in Kim Anderson, who was hired in April to replace Frank Haith.
The Tigers, who joined the SEC two years ago, were 23-12 last season and reached the second round of the NIT before falling to Southern Mississippi.
Fulford was an assistant at Mountain State University for three years before taking over the reins at Mountain State Academy from 2006-09. MSA had an 81-14 mark.
