Wyoming East stuns No. 3 Logan, 4-3
A Katlen Francis grounder scored what turned out to be the game winning run as Wyoming East upset AAA No. 3 Logan, 4-3, at New Richmond on Senior Night.
The Lady Warriors (13-9) scored three in the bottom of the sixth to pull out their biggest victory of the season.
“That’s a quality win,” said East coach Robert “Doc” Warner. “We didn’t have that many hits, but we put the ball in play.”
WEHS took a 1-0 lead in the second when Hailey Lowman doubled deep to center and eventually came home on Harley McBride’s single to right.
The Wildcats tied it in the third, and that’s how it stayed until the fifth.
Taylor Napier singled down the left field line, and Kelsey Ward doubled to right to give Logan runners at second and third with none out.
A passed ball allowed one run to score, and a Summer Collins infield single brought in another. That made it 3-1.
There was one out in the sixth when Leah Bailey reached on an error. Bre Pertee and Hailey Lowman walked to load the bases.
Logan (21-4) brought in Hana Sedlock to relieve Aaron Ward.
A passed ball allowed Bailey to score from third, cutting the margin to 3-2.
A wild pitch brought in another run to tie it.
Francis brought in the go ahead run .
Napier reached on an error to start the Logan seventh, and she reached third later in the inning.
Kaithlyn Mills, who relieved Emily Day in the fifth, got Kelsey Ward to ground into a force at second. East catcher Adrienne Mullins gunned a bunt attempt to first for the second out.
Hannah Kolovich tapped it to the pitcher for the final out.
Mills was the winning pitcher.
It was Senior Night for Bailey, who scored a key run, and McBride, who made a pair of fine catches in left field.
“Leah is always positive,” said Warner. “And Harley is a battler.”
