Christian Hedinger had already made a name for himself at Wyoming East as a starter on the Warriors 2012 state championship baseball team and a basketball starter as well.
He didn’t add football to his resume until his junior year. But he got noticed quickly.
Hedinger, who led the Warriors in catches and TD receptions, signed to play at Concord University last Wednesday at WEHS.
“All my friends were playing (football), and they wanted me to play,” he said. “It was the best thing that ever happened.”
He was an impact player from the beginning, catching a TD pass and running an interception back for a score in his first game.
“Football is a lot of fun,” he stated. “You rely on your teammates.”
CU has been showing interest in him for a while. “They kept telling me they wanted me to come down for a visit,” Hedinger noted.
“It felt like home,” he stated. “And it’s close to my family.
“I’ll work hard and get better, just like (the players on the Concord team) had to do,” Hedinger remarked.
He plans to major in criminal justice.
East coach Gary Poindexter said Hedinger and fellow East signee Brian Whitt (who is headed to Bluefield College) “are very good athletes and they’re two great people.
“Christian has worked a lot in the weight room,” the coach pointed out. “He’s very aggressive and very strong.”
