AAA No. 1 Parkersburg South put together a 12-2 run in the fourth quarter and held off AA No. 1 Westside, 49-43, in the girls division of the Big Atlantic Classic in Beckley on Thursday night.

Westside’s Hope Lester scored inside twice and Megan Endicott connected off a dish from Danielle Brown as the Lady Renegades built a 37-31 lead with 6:19 to go in the fourth quarter.

South tied it in less than a minute and took the lead, 39-37, on a 17 footer from Lakyn Valentine.

A Kristin Hash put back tied it at 39-39 with 3:32 to go.

Taryn McCutcheon stole the ball and laid it in for two and then knifed through traffic for a bucket to put the Patriots (13-0) in front to stay.

“The effort was 100 percent,” said WHS coach Jamie Lusk. “I think we got a little tired in the fourth quarter.”

Westside, 9-1, will play Shady Spring at 9 a.m. on Saturday in the consolation game.
