A rare No. 1 vs. No. 1 showdown will take place this evening at the Big Atlantic Classic.

Class AA No. 1 Westside (9-0) faces AAA No. 1 Parkersburg South at the Raleigh County Convention Center in Beckley at 5:45 p.m.

WHS was the AA state runner-up last year. South won the AAA title by defeating Logan.

“The Big Atlantic Classic is one of the top tournaments in the state,” said Renegades coach Jamie Lusk. “You know you will always be playing against top notch competition.

“We are the only double AA girls team in it so its a very tough challenge for us,” he added. “Playing these tough teams gets you prepared for the sectional tournaments all the way through to the state tourney.

“Parkersburg South is the defending triple AAA state champions and return their entire team from last year,” Lusk said. “We look forward to the challenge and we will come ready to play.”

The winner will take on the Greenbrier East-Shady Spring winner at 7 p.m. on Saturday in the championship game.
