Oceana’s Civil War Days have a new time.

Previously held in May, this year’s Civil War Days are set for July 18-20.

“This event was moved to July to try and increase community participation by avoiding conflicts with area proms, dances, Mother’s Day and other events that take place in May,” said Jim Cook of the Wyoming County Historical Museum. “We were also hoping July would give us better weather conditions.”

Reuben Mitchell of Hale’s Battery will be in charge of this year’s reenactment.

“Mr. Mitchell is well known in the reenactment world,” Cook said. “He has helped Gilbert and other reenactment events to grow, so we are hoping he can help us to make our event more successful.”

He said Mitchell’s efforts helped to double the number of reenactors participating.

Two cannons have been added to the event, bringing the number of cannons to three.

“It should be exciting for the visitors,” Cook commented.

“I would encourage everyone to come out and see how our ancestors lived in the 1860s and learn a little area history in a fun and entertaining manner,” he said.

Here is the schedule for this year’s Civil War Days:
