A crash involving a semi truck and a pickup truck on U.S. 25E Saturday afternoon left a Pineville man dead and two others injured, Kentucky State Police said.

Kentucky State Police Public Affairs Officer Shane Jacobs said in a press released issued late Saturday night that the crash occurred about 2 p.m.

He said Post 10 received a call “of a two-vehicle collision involving an 18 wheeler in the Log Mountain area of Bell County. Troopers from Post 10 responded and upon their arrival they notified Post 10 that it was a fatality. Post 10’s Accident Reconstructionist Kenneth Sergent was notified.”

Jacobs said the preliminary investigation indicated that Anthony Baker was operating a 2011 GMC pick-up truck while traveling north on U.S.25E when he drove underneath an 18-wheeler.

Anthony Baker and Lisa Hoskins were transported to Pineville Community Hospital, said Jacobs. Lisa Hoskins was later flown to the University of Tennessee Hospital, he said. Her condition was not available Saturday night, Jacobs said.

The third passenger in the vehicle, Aaron Baker, 21, of Pineville, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bell County Deputy Coroner, Jacobs said.

The operator of the 18-wheeler, Kenneth Wirt Jr. was not injured in the collision, Jacobs said.

The crash occurred shortly after the Bell County High School graduation.

Both westbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours, forcing emergency personnel to close one eastbound lane of traffic and reroute westbound traffic into that lane to allow traffic to begin flowing sometime after the wreck.

Firefighters were nearby when the collision occurred providing traffic control for graduation.

Sergent is continuing his investigation.
